Course Overview
This qualification reflects the role of individuals, including open cut examiners, working in surface coal mines, who perform tasks involving a broad range of day-to-day, operational activities in their area of responsibility. They are responsible for ensuring a safe work environment through applying the safety and health management system in and around work areas of surface excavation, including monitoring the quantity and quality of output, supervising others and applying solutions to non-routine problems.
To achieve this qualification, competency must be demonstrated in:
14 units of competency:
- 10 core units plus
- 4 elective units of which:
one (1) must be chosen from Group A
at least one (1) must be chosen from Group B
one (1) or more may be chosen from Group C
no more than one (1) may be chosen from Group D
no more than one (1) may be chosen from Group E
no more than one (1) unit may be chosen from elsewhere within this training package, or from another endorsed training package, or from an accredited course.
All elective units selected from outside this qualification must reflect current occupational and learning outcomes of this AQF qualification level.

Course Inclusions
- Training will be conducted by one of our experienced trainer / assessors who have industry currency and supported by a strong knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations and industry standards.
- Practical and theoretical activities drive the training experience to ensure that the training is engaging, interesting and relevant.
- 12 months of training. Up to 12 trainees per course.
